If you are updateing Floydzilla,
just run the New Floydzilla installer.
It will overwrite the OLD version with the NEW.

The following Tutorial is ONLY for
1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen, 4th gen,
Photo/Color, 1&2 Mini gen iPods

For a iPod Nano Tutorial go HERE

The 5th Gen iPod WILL NOT work with Floydzilla!
For a Tutorial on how to put Podzilla2 on your 5th Gen
go to ipodlinux.org/5g

What you will need:
- iPod Linux Installer -
http://ipodlinux.org/Downloads
(Make sure the installer you download
supports your style iPod. example: 4g Installer)
- Nightly Kernel -
http://ipodlinux.org/builds
(Scroll to the bottom, and get the newest one.
example: 2005-11-10-kernel.bin.gz)
- Floydzilla Binary -
Only download the binary,
the source is for developers

You only need to do a Fake Update if you are
updating the Linux kernel, or have problems.
Otherwise, skip this and goto "Installing
iPod Linux and Floydzilla"
How to do a Fake Update:
A fake update is when you trick your Apple iPod updater into
thinking your iPod needs an update. So you don't loose your music.
  1. Mount your iPod
  2. Open your iPods directory.
**Make sure you can view Hidden Files**
  3. Open the folder named 'iPod _Control'
  4. Then open the folder named 'Device'
  5. Now open the file named 'SysInfo'
with a text editor (ie: WordPad)
  6. You'll see alot of text, look for is the
    line that says 'buildID:'
  7. You will see a # after that, similar to
    this one: 0x03108000 (3.1)
  8. You need to do is change the 3rd #
    after the x, to a lower # (ie: change 1 to 0)
  9. So my # is changed to: 0x03008000 (3.1)
NOTE: your buildID # may be different then mine
  10. Once you have that changed, save the file, and exit.
  11. Now start up your Apple Updater
(The updater that came from your iPods CD, or here)
  12. Click the 'UPDATE' button
  13. Now you have a clean iPod! All your music is
stilll there, and no hidden Linux Files

If you have a previous verision of iPod Linux on your iPod.
You MUST clear it off by doing a Fake Update, or a Restore.
Or else you will run into problems
Intalling iPod Linux and Floydzilla:
  1. Extract the iPod Linux Installer to a folder
  2. Extract the Nightly Kernel file (kernel.bin) to your desktop.
  3. Rename the kernel.bin file to linux.bin
  4. Put the renamed Kernel file(linux.bin) into
the same folder you extracted the Linux installer.
  5. If done correctly, you should get a dialog box saying
    "OK to Overwrite?" Say YES
(if you dont get this dialog, try renaming the
    kernel file to just 'linux')
  6. Mount your iPod, and Run the Linux Installer
  7. If you have a 4g, Photo, Mini, or Nano
UNCHECK the update box!. Otherwise, click NEXT
  8. Now, choose which Firmware you want to
    boot into by default.
(I suggest useing Apple Firmware as your Default)
  9. Make a Backup
  10. Once the Installer has finished.
Do NOT unmount your iPod yet.
  11. Run the Floydzilla Installer
    (for Mac/Linux, just extract everything
from the Floydzillamac.zip, to your iPods HD)
  12. Once everything has finished, you can unmount your iPod.
  13. To get into Linux, you'll need to reset your iPod,
(see, this ,if you do not know how to reset)
  14. Then once you see the Apple Logo, flip the Hold Switch ON
(or hit any button when you see the apple logo)
  15. You will see a Penguin, then a bunch of text fly by.
    Just wait, everything is loading...
  16. Once thats done, turn off Hold.
Now, you should hopefully be in FloydZilla!!!
(If Not, make sure you installed all the Floydzilla files
to the root of your iPod, and not into a folder)
  17. If your screen is extremely dark, but you can still hear clicks.
You will need to fix the contrast.
FIXING THE CONTRAST
  1. Starting from the TOP
  2. Go DOWN 2 CLICKS
  3. Push the middle button
  4. Go DOWN 5 CLICKS
  5. Push middle button
  6. Now adjust the contrast
